We would like to extend our sincere congratulations to the CooperVision company for obtaining the prestigious LEED® Silver certification for environmental-friendly design and operation in its 10,000 square-meter manufacturing facility, located in Coyol Free Zone.

Inaugurated in 2016, this plant produces silicone hydrogel contact lenses under the Clariti® brand. According to the company, it is the only LEED Silver contact lens manufacturing facility in the world.

The CooperVision plant stood out in the LEED assessment categories that included energy and water conservation, transportation, waste reduction, and human experience in relation to the environment. They also highlighted initiatives such as the recovery of organic waste for composting, the reduction in the use of hot water, the implementation of new energy and water consumption monitoring, and the expansion of LED lighting use.

What is it?

The LEED certificate (Leader in Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Design) is awarded by the US Green Building Certification Institute, the technical body responsible for verifying sustainable building practices in the United States and other countries around the world.

Coyol Free Zone has a LEED Master Site Certification for the application of leading construction practices, reduction of carbon emissions, and for having efficient management of its transport services.

Because of this, the properties of medical devices and high technology companies that are located in Coyol Free Zone can be built and operated under the LEED parameters of sustainable architecture, taking advantage of the pre-approved points when installed in the park.

Abbott, Smith & Nephew, and Establishment Labs, also have LEED certifications within the park.

Undoubtedly, obtaining this new LEED Silver certification reflects CooperVision’s efforts to save water and conserve energy; to reduce, re-use and recycle  resources; to empower the people within the company and in the communities in which it operates, and to be positive agents in favor of the environment.
