Alajuela, December 5, 2025. Solidarity and well-being are an essential part of the DNA of the employees and companies based in Coyol Free Zone, as well as partner companies, who participate in and support the Clásica Coyol athletics race every year.
This sports initiative, now in its twelfth year, promotes sports and healthy habits, while contributing to the improvement of infrastructure and equipment in educational centers located in the geographical area surrounding this industrial park, which has been in operation for more than 18 years.
Carlos Wong, Managing Director of CODE Development Group, co-developer and operator of Coyol Free Zone, said: “It is a source of pride to note that, edition after edition, the Clásica Coyol continues to grow, with 170 more participants than in 2024, when 2,600 runners took part”.
“This event not only promotes health, sports, and healthy coexistence, but also becomes a valuable opportunity to support educational centers and other charitable causes,” Wong explained.
In this edition, participants competed in the 5- and 10-kilometer categories, while others joined the 3-kilometer recreational walk. Tangible solidarity
Traditionally, the funds raised in each edition of the Clásica Coyol are used to improve the infrastructure and equipment of school and high schools in the communities surrounding this industrial park, which generates more than 24,500 direct jobs.
In the 2024 edition, this sporting event raised ¢18,000,000, of which ¢9,000,000 went to families affected by the heavy rains in Guanacaste, while the other ¢9,000,000 million was donated to the Jesús Ocaña Rojas Technical Professional High School, located in Canoas de Alajuela, for the purchase of eight computers with special software and processors to support the programs and systems used for design in the Precision Mechanics Workshop.
More than 60 students specializing in this field benefited from this initiative, and can now work with up-to-date technology that meets their educational needs.
Other educational centers that have benefited from funds raised in previous years include the Ulloa Technical Professional High School (for electromechanical and industrial electronics laboratory equipment) and CEDES Don Bosco, benefiting more than 200 students in areas such as precision mechanics, electronics, and electromechanics.
Educational centers such as the Miguel Carballo School in Naranjo, the Santa Rosa School in Poás, and the Pacto del Jocote High School have also benefited, receiving technological equipment or perimeter security systems to ensure the well-being of their educational communities.
With these contributions, Coyol Free Zone reaffirms its commitment to strengthening education in Costa Rica in STEM areas, promoting the development of key skills in students to enhance human talent in a strategic sector for the country, such as Life Sciences.
