DECEMBER

  • Clásica Coyol – record participation

 

The twelfth edition of the Clásica Coyol was successfully held, breaking the participation record with 2,770 runners from 51 companies, reinforcing community well-being. The funds raised through this social responsibility initiative are allocated to improve the infrastructure and equipment of educational centers in surrounding communities.

NOVEMBER

  • ECI – first LatAm commercial testing lab

First commercial Packaging, Distribution Simulation, and Stability Testing Laboratory of its kind in Latin America (US$5M+ investment). This action strengthens Coyol Free Zone’s value proposition by providing a critical, high-tech service on-site for the Life Sciences cluster.

OCTOBER

  • Coyol Free Zone: the most awarded free zone in Costa Rica
    Securing a position in the Top 10 Global Free Zones 2025 for the sixth consecutive year, alongside other key regional recognitions, including the Excellence in Sustainability award in the Americas. This achievement reaffirms Coyol Free Zone’s leadership as the most awarded Free Zone in Costa Rica and a strategic hub for global investment.

SEPTEMBER

  • Freudenberg Medical – operational footprint quadrupled

Opening its second production facility in Coyol Free Zone. This US$25 million investment effectively quadrupled the company’s operational footprint in Costa Rica (expanding from 30,000 sq ft to 100,000 sq ft) and created high-value employment for over 900 employees, solidifying Coyol Free Zone’s position as the leading regional hub for MedTech expansion.

  • Ride Coyol – smart mobility for +18,000 daily users
    Coyol Free Zone’s smart mobility platform and centralized transportation system. This digital, sustainable solution mobilizes over 18,000 employees daily across 160 communities, utilizing smart management (QR codes and digital wallets) to promote access to quality employment, reduce private vehicle usage, and reinforce Coyol Free Zone’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

JULY

  • Strategic alliance for talent attraction

Formalization of a strategic agreement with the Municipality of Heredia (and 19 other municipalities) to strengthen the attraction of highly qualified human talent and facilitate their integration into the labor market. This alliance, marked by a major Job Fair in Heredia, promotes sustainable economic development and ensures Coyol Free Zone companies have access to the specialized workforce required for the Life Sciences and Smart Manufacturing sectors.

JUNE

  • OECD certification for transparency and legal certainty

Achievement of the prestigious OECD Certification, granted during the 2025 Ministerial Council Meeting in Paris. This global seal validates Coyol Free Zone’s adherence to the highest international standards of transparency, compliance, legal certainty, and best practices in trade, strengthening our position as a preferred destination for high-value investments and a global model for Free Trade Zones. 

  • Thermo Fisher Scientific expansion 

Opening of a new distribution center, tripling its installed storage and delivery capacity. This reinvestment enhances supply chain efficiency for over 70 Life Sciences cluster companies in Costa Rica, enabling them to convert internal storage space into clean rooms and manufacturing environments.

APRIL

  • Cirtec Medical expansion
    Strategic expansion of Cirtec Medical, a leading end-to-end medical device manufacturer, with a new facility of over 50,000 sq ft. This investment enhances manufacturing capabilities—including neurostimulation leads, extrusion, and finished device assembly—and increases capacity to support growing global demand in key markets like neuromodulation, interventional, and structural heart devices.

 

JANUARY

  • Theragenics’ new medical needle facility opening
    Grand opening of Theragenics’ new, state-of-the-art 4,000-square-meter manufacturing facility in Coyol Free Zone, representing a US$10 million investment. This facility is the first in Costa Rica dedicated to the production of specialized medical needles, guidewires, and related components, and is expected to create over 500 new jobs, further diversifying the country’s Life Sciences cluster.
