Different organizations received contributions over the last six months.
More than 240 school students and 670,000 users of the San Rafael de Alajuela Hospital benefit from this economic contribution of Coyol Free Zone to the surrounding communities.
As part of its commitment to the health and well-being of the population, over the last six months the industrial park has made donations in the amount of ¢14,336,586 for the improvement of nearby educational centers and equipment for the medical center in the province of Alajuela.
This Free Trade Zone, a leading exporter of medical devices, provided the money for the purchase of an electrocardiograph for the emergency service of the San Rafael Hospital in Alajuela. This device records and analyzes the electrical impulses of a patient’s heart, identifying whether the patient has a heart attack, ischemic disease or angina pectoris, among others.
In addition to this donation, Coyol Free Zone allocated resources for the Miguel Carballo school, located in Naranjo de Alajuela, to strengthen its educational infrastructure. This contribution will benefit more than 40 elementary school students, as well as the teaching and administrative staff of the school.
“We are pleased to know that our contribution makes a significant contribution to the education and health of Costa Rica. Each donation allows the students to have a training process in an environment that favors healthy coexistence and an optimal learning experience. In addition, by donating funds for the purchase of medical equipment, we are helping the hospital to improve the quality of the services it provides to patients”, said Carlos Wong, Managing Director of Coyol Free Zone.
Funds raised in Clásica Coyol promote technical specialties
The social impact of Coyol Free Zone, an industrial park with 17 years of operation, also aims at the welfare of its employees. For this reason, it held the tenth edition of the Clásica Coyol Race in 2023, an internal competition to obtain the necessary resources for educational equipment.
The last edition raised ¢9,036,586 thanks to the participation of companies and sponsors throughout the Park and the payment of registration fees. Currently, the funds are being used to equip the practice workshops of the technical specialties of Mechanics and Precision and Electromechanics of CEDES Don Bosco, which today benefits more than 200 students.
The resources are allocated to the purchase of an additive machine with SLA technology for 3D printing and a shaft aligner with laser technology.
“These technical specialties are among the most required by medical device companies in Coyol Free Zone. The purpose of this contribution is to provide students with better equipment for their training. In this way, they improve their profiles and increase their chances of finding employment”, Wong explained.
Clásica Coyol is an internal Free Zone competition of 5 and 10 kilometers that includes a 3-kilometer recreational walk, as well as Zumba classes. Its purpose is to promote wellness, as well as to support the infrastructure or equipment needs of the educational centers in the geographical area of influence of the Park.
In the last edition, held in 2023, 2,200 employees of Coyol Free Zone, companies based in the Park and other external organizations that supported the race as sponsors did participate. The runners represented 49 companies.
