Coyol Free Zone’s leadership is rooted in a long-term vision built on sustainability, innovation, and human talent. In 2024, this vision was reaffirmed through new milestones in economic impact, infrastructure, talent development, environmental performance, and social contribution.

These results demonstrate how the alignment of these three pillars amplifies impact across the entire value chain, generating shared benefits for companies, employees, and communities.

World-Class Growth And Infrastructure

In 2024, Coyol Free Zone reached a historical cumulative total of 316,737 m² built since operations began. New projects included 7,525 m² in expansions for Freudenberg Medical and Cirtec Medical, and 3,343 m² in mezzanines for the same facilities.

Additionally, 7,635 m² of internal improvements were completed, including a state-of-the-art packaging testing laboratory developed by ECI (formerly CRx Life Sciences), which will strengthen local innovation and R&D capabilities in the Medical Devices sector.

Our buildings continue to meet the highest international standards, with over 100,000 m² historically certified under LEED, reinforcing our commitment to efficiency, safety, and environmental impact mitigation throughout every stage of construction.

Life Sciences Leadership Alongside World-Class Companies

By the end of 2024, 34 companies operated in Coyol Free Zone, benefiting from a robust operational model focused on efficiency, logistics agility, and continuous improvement.

Our consistent recognition by fDi Intelligence, ranked us as the fourth best Free Zone in the world and the best in the Americas for the fourth consecutive year, validating our global leadership.

Quality Job Creation And Economic Dynamism

Coyol Free Zone remains a national benchmark for quality job creation within the Free Trade Zone regime.By the end of 2024, companies installed in the Park generated 24,588 direct jobs, up from 22,500 in 2022.

Additionally, our cluster supports approximately 5,000 indirect jobs through subcontractors, suppliers, logistics companies, and other key players in the OEM manufacturing value chain.

Engineering And Sustainability Innovation

Coyol Free Zone continues to implement leading-edge platforms such as BIM, Procore, and OpenSpace to enhance construction quality, efficiency, and traceability. These tools enable real-time monitoring, digital documentation integration, and early risk detection; facilitating smarter decision-making.

In 2024, advanced tools were also used to monitor electricity and water consumption during construction projects.

Safe And Resilient Construction Environments

Freudenberg Medical’s expansion project recorded 219,725 hours without accidents, reflecting Coyol Free Zone’s strong commitment to occupational health and safety.

Other key actions included enhanced contractor coordination, expansion of the safety team, and the implementation of unified safety brigades for large-scale projects.

Sustainable Mobility And Logistics

RIDE Coyol, our smart transportation platform, plays a key role in connecting talent with opportunity. In 2024, it provided more than 140,000 services across 76 routes, serving an average of 16,800 users per month. This system continues to evolve to efficiently, safely, and sustainably meet the mobility needs of the human talent that daily commutes to the companies operating in Coyol Free Zone.

That same year, a smart management system was implemented, transforming the mobility experience through a digital platform. Users can easily access the transportation service via QR codes and make payments through a digital wallet, eliminating the need for cash and improving process efficiency.

Beyond enhancing the user experience, digitalization enables real-time data collection and analysis, facilitating operational decision-making. This information has been instrumental in identifying priority points of origin and reducing travel times. For example, data gathered in 2024 confirms that over 50% of the system’s users reside in the Alajuela province.

RIDE Coyol  reflects our commitment to sustainable development, job accessibility, and the continuous improvement of the complementary services. This system, pioneering in its category within a free trade zone, strengthens our value proposition by integrating technology, mobility, and sustainability for the benefit of the talent of Coyol Free Zone.

Empowering Local Suppliers Through Recognition And Connection

Coyol Impulsa, our program that recognizes outstanding local suppliers, received an Honorable Mention at the 2024 AMCHAM Sustainability Awards (Social Category: Value Chain). Currently, over 150 suppliers are connected through the Coyol Free Zone Local Suppliers Directory, developed in partnership with the Costa Rican Foreign Trade Promoter (PROCOMER), strengthening strategic linkages within global value chains.

Wellbeing And Social Commitment From Coyol Free Zone

At Coyol Free Zone, wellbeing is a core component of our integrated sustainability strategy. The Park hosts various initiatives that promote sports, health, recreation, and solidarity, always in support of the people working in companies installed in the Park and the surrounding communities.

One of the most representative examples is the Clásica Coyol, a recreational race that celebrated its 11th edition in 2024, promoting physical activity and community integration. For the second consecutive year, it surpassed its registration record, reaching a total of 2,600 participants from over 60 companies, sponsors, and special guests, an 8.3% increase compared to the previous year.

One hundred percent of the funds raised were allocated to social donations, including support for families affected by heavy rains in the last quarter of 2024 and contributions to technical education in the Alajuela region.

Significant efforts were also made in the health sector. Coyol Free Zone  organized a blood donation campaign in collaboration with several companies operating in the Park. A total of 70 people participated, 60 successfully donated blood, collecting 30 liters that will contribute to the medical care of approximately 240 patients in hospitals across the country.

We also continued supporting local healthcare institutions in Alajuela by donating essential medical equipment for the care of patients requiring specialized tests. In addition, the Park supported initiatives that assist people in terminal illness situations and their families, with a humanitarian approach and continuity of care.

These actions reflect our commitment to human and social development, integrating well-being as an active component of our value proposition. From promoting health to technical education to recreation initiatives, the Park continues to strengthen its positive impact beyond its physical infrastructure.
