The company expects to double its current payroll by the end of 2023

Coyol, Alajuela, Costa Rica. August 22, 2023 – Riverpoint Medical – a leading developer, designer and manufacturer of medical devices – announced the opening of its new facilities and manufacturing plant in the Coyol Free Trade Zone in Alajuela.

With a $10 million investment, the company aims to double its current workforce of 70 employees to 140 people by early 2024. Riverpoint Medical is the first manufacturer of absorbable, non-absorbable and customized orthopedic fiber sutures in Costa Rica.

This strategic decision takes advantage of the capabilities that the country offers to have a medical equipment manufacturing center, as well as its expertise in the export of these devices. The initial stage of the facility, encompassing 4,000 square meters, will be devoted to the manufacture of medical devices, and will include two certified clean rooms.

The design of the new facilities of Riverpoint Medical prioritizes the well-being of people, fostering a comfortable working environment while optimizing production potential. The company has future plans to expand its operation by an additional 3,000 square meters.

Indiana Trejos, Vice Minister of Foreign Trade, said: “The news of Riverpoint Medical is an example of how the country has managed to position itself internationally as an attractive destination for companies in the Life Sciences sector. According to Procomer’s first semester report, Costa Rican exports are led by the precision and medical equipment sector with a 40% share. This is undoubtedly a clear reflection of the great work that has been done to transform the country into an innovative and sophisticated hub for this sector.”

“Costa Rica offers a winning formula to support our growth as an organization, by combining attractive geography, incredible and talented people, and a strong educational system geared toward the Medical Device industry,” said Doug King, CEO of Riverpoint Medical.

Riverpoint Medical develops, manufactures and obtains regulatory approvals for specialized fiber-based surgical products. These products include absorbable and non-absorbable textile sutures, which serve both human and animal health markets in more than 90 countries around the world, with production rates in the tens of millions of units annually.

“This new location will also boost our development potential in some of the fastest growing Medical Device markets, such as orthopedics, cardiovascular, dental, and general surgery,” added King.

“We are pleased to welcome Riverpoint Medical to Coyol Free Zone. Their expertise in innovative and high-quality medical devices will help to continue building Costa Rica’s leadership as a global hub for the industry; and we are confident that local talent will be an essential asset to create high-impact solutions for people’s quality of life,” said Carlos Wong Zúñiga, managing director of Coyol Free Zone.

With this expansion, Riverpoint Medical aims to expand its team. The company is looking for individuals who align with its core values of teamwork, innovation, cooperation and quality. A variety of roles are required, including operators (preferably with experience in the Life Sciences industry), industrial and biomedical engineers, among others.
