With 19 years of experience since its opening, Coyol Free Zone reaffirms its position as a driver of innovation, human talent, and specialized employment in high-value-added sectors: Life Sciences, Smart Manufacturing, and Semiconductors, growing thanks to innovation and excellence in their processes.
This industrial hub also serves as a strategic business environment for attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), facilitating knowledge transfer, and adopting cutting-edge technologies.
The Coyol Free Zone is home to 34 leading companies, recognized worldwide for their innovation and leadership in advanced manufacturing. To date, they have created 25,422 direct jobs, with 45% held by men and 55% by women, who perform roles ranging from operational and technical tasks to high-level professions and positions, such as managerial and executive roles.
Jorge Monge Víquez, Managing Director of CODE Development Group, co-developer of Coyol Free Zone, assured that the operation of these companies fosters an environment of cooperation and knowledge sharing that promotes innovation.
“For 19 years, Coyol Free Zone has developed a business platform that enables companies to bring highly sophisticated products and solutions beyond our borders, backed by specialized knowledge and high-precision processes, transforming lives and promoting the well-being of millions of people around the world. Our strength lies in our world-class talent, whose experience and commitment make it possible for every device to make a difference,” explained Monge.
Supporting Young Talent
The companies located in the Park also promote young talent: 91% of their workforce is between the ages of 18 and 45, making it a breeding ground for opportunities for new generations. From the skilled hands of these employees come innovative medical devices that improve the health and well-being of millions of people.
Medical solutions, such as intravenous sets, breast implants, gastric bands, contact lenses, and cardiovascular catheters, are among the cutting-edge products created through the talent and dedication of those who work at this industrial park, which today celebrates 19 years of growth and commitment to global health and quality of life.
Thanks to the talent and expertise of these employees, operations can ensure compliance with demanding international standards in the Life Sciences, Smart Manufacturing, and Semiconductor industries, through high levels of precision, operational excellence, and an ongoing improvement of their processes.
“Products manufactured in the Coyol Free Zone are exported directly to end markets, positioning the park as a strategic hub in the global medical device supply chain,” said Monge.
This Free Trade Zone, certified by the OECD and operating under the “Esencial Costa Rica” country brand, serves as a strategic engine for growth, attracting high-value-added operations and encouraging reinvestment by established companies, thereby creating new opportunities for quality jobs. This is evident in the expansion efforts within the Park, where 85% of companies have expanded their on-site presence in recent years. This trend reflects a pattern of reinvestment that has a positive impact on the creation of direct and indirect jobs, as well as on the value chain associated with construction activities.
Coyol Free Zone generates more than US$4.4 billion in annual exports, accounting for 35.1% of manufacturing exports under the Free Trade Zone Regime, and nearly 54.9% of the country’s medical device exports, underscoring its impact on the national economy.
In addition to creating job opportunities, the Coyol Free Zone stands out for its high levels of productivity, equivalent to 2.9 times the national average, reflecting sophisticated operations focused on value creation. With a combination of skilled talent, highly specialized processes, and operational excellence, the Park is positioned as a benchmark for competitiveness and a key driver of growth for Costa Rica.
Looking ahead, this industrial park reaffirms its commitment to well-being, the creation of formal, high-quality jobs, the production of high-value-added solutions, and the country’s sustainable development.
In 2025, Costa Rica reaffirmed the strength of its investment climate by attracting US$5.1218 billion in FDI, 84% of which consisted of reinvestments, according to data from Procomer. This trend reflects the sustained confidence of investors in the country, as well as the ability of its operations to grow, become more sophisticated, and generate value in an increasingly demanding global environment. In this context, Coyol Free Zone has established itself as a key player in economic revitalization, particularly in the Medical Devices sector.
