Discover the New Facilities and Investments Driving Innovation and Growth in Costa Rica’s Free Trade Zone

In 2024, Coyol Free Zone added more than 107,000 ft2 in industrial buildings to meet the growth needs of companies that decide to invest and reinvest in the country to successfully develop their operations. Additionally, this Free Zone, with more than 17 years of experience, incorporated another 107,000 ft2 of construction in internal improvements to the buildings.

Our engineering team manages world-class standards in project development to meet industry demands, enabling them to assemble or manufacture top-quality products.

Freudenberg Medical

The first expansion announced during the year was that of Freudenberg Medical: a new 53,808 ft² building for the assembly of large-volume minimally invasive catheters for electrophysiology, vascular, and structural cardiac therapies, as well as other medical devices requiring high-precision manual assemblage. In addition, the facility will have certified ISO 7 clean rooms.

Shockwave Medical

The next significant milestone of the year was the opening of Shockwave Medical, which successfully completed the second phase of its expansion at the Park. This 1,291,668 ft² facility is part of a US$40 million investment planned through 2028 to enhance the company’s operations in Costa Rica.

In 2023, the firm selected Coyol Free Zone as the location for its first plant outside the United States.

ECI

The U.S. company ECI (previously known as CRx Life Sciences), with its state-of-the-art packaging testing laboratory, will strengthen the ecosystem and global value chains in the medical device sector, as well as create local research and development opportunities in Costa Rica.

Segex

Design work commenced on the expansion of the building occupied by Segex, which was completed in the early months of 2024. This expansion coincided with the celebration of the company’s tenth anniversary, ten years during which Segex established itself as a leader in logistics solutions for world-class companies.

Resonetics

Resonetics, a company specialized in developing key solutions for the Life Sciences industry, inaugurated its second manufacturing plant in Coyol Free Zone in August 2024. This new 581,202 ft² facility aims to enhance its manufacturing and technological development capabilities in Costa Rica and represents an investment of $US10 million.

Thermo Fisher Scientific

Recently, a state-of-the-art building with an area of 25,026 ft² was completed for Thermo Fisher Scientific, distinguished by its unique design within the infrastructure of the Park.

The new structures also include nearly 85,000 ft² of multitenant buildings, which are modular spaces adapted to the needs of each tenant, where companies such as Riverpoint, ECI (formerly CRx Life Sciences), and Roche will develop their activities.

All these projects were developed by the most experienced team of engineers in the industrial sector, which track record includes work in several premier Free Trade Zones.
